Beautiful Chaos: My Everyday Life Captured

Ferris Bueller once said, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”  I have always been a huge fan of photographs. I’ve probably taken a million pictures of my children, friends, and family over the years. However, I never invested in professional photos. For some reason, I’ve always been drawn to a candid moment, and just having fun with my phone.

Recently I was approached by a good friend, and extremely talented photographer, Ron Lemelin, who offered to take pictures of me and my boys. At first, I was hesitant. I love seeing happy families in Ralph Lauren sweaters on a perfect fall day, but that isn’t my reality. After that moment is created, it’s over. What I’m passionate about is capturing presence, because it changes so quickly. Over the last couple of years, my life has changed and shifted dramatically. I am in a place I never imagined.

Some days are filled with glorious joy and others with immense sadness. I want to remember it all. My days are long and overwhelming. I know the moments I currently view with exhaustion and irritation, I’ll one day long for. I want to be able to look back, years from now, and remember exactly how I felt and what my life was like. I want my children to see our authentic, genuine love. I want them to be able to show their children an accurate depiction of their childhood. Here are a few examples…

The 6 am teeth brushing in our tiny bathroom.

There’s always chaos in the kitchen, the boys are constantly hungry and there’s never enough food in the fridge.

Sometimes I feel like there’s never enough of me to go around.
I cherish our times together in the backyard…with my glass of Pinot in hand!

Working from home is often a challenge with a little one on my lap, and a Curious George asking a million questions.

Bedtime…when they open their world to me and share what’s on their little minds. I’ll miss how they fight over who gets to be closer to me, and the smell of their shampoo as they rest their heads on my chest. These are the days, the moments, the routines I am so grateful that Ron Lemelin captured for us.
